Only recently, Viroc International Limited together with their Principals Messrs. AGUSTA WESTLAND SPA, now known as LEONARDO, were awarded the very prestigious contract for the Supply and Delivery of Three AW 139 Helicopters for Border Control and Search and Rescue.
The AW 139 is an intermediate twin-engine helicopter that features one of the largest cabins in its category for enhanced mission flexibility and crew comfort. In addition to the standard performance the characteristics found on board Augusta Westland’s new generation helicopters, the rotary wing platform acquired by the AFM is specifically equipped to conduct Maritime Border Patrol Missions and SAR Operations.
The AW139 has a maximum speed of 193mph, a range of almost 600 miles, and service ceiling of 20,000 feet. It will enhance the AFM’s capability to operate out at sea for an extended duration and at a greater distance than what is currently possible.
The helicopter is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment package for maritime patrol and SAR missions that includes a high-definition FLIR system, search/weather radar, cabin mission console, naval transponder, search light, satellite communication system, a 4-axis autopilot with SAR modes, external rescue hoist and four bag floatation system. This twin-engine helicopter features the largest cabin in its category.
Included with the supply of the first helicopter was the supply of special tools, ground support and common aviation equipment, as well as training for pilots and technicians. A second aircraft was delivered in December 2014 and officially inaugurated in July 2015. The Third AW139 was duly delivered in 2016.
